Terms of Service

1. Agreement

These terms govern your use of WriteACon (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to browse, register a phone, create an account, or list a profile. By using the Service you confirm that you are.

3. What the Service is

WriteACon is a directory and messaging intermediary. We publish profiles submitted by or on behalf of incarcerated people and provide tools to contact them. We are not affiliated with any correctional agency, we do not control facility rules, and we do not screen the character of anyone in the directory. You are responsible for your own decisions about whom to contact and what to share. Please read the safety guidelines.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to help anyone break a facility rule or the law.
• Harass, threaten, defraud, or exploit anyone you contact through the Service.
• Scrape, copy, or republish profiles or contact details, or share revealed text numbers with others.
• Impersonate anyone, or list a profile for someone without their consent.
• Upload malicious code, probe or disrupt the Service, or bypass its security.
• Send unsolicited commercial messages through the Service.

We may suspend or terminate access for any breach, without refund.

5. Phone registration and messaging

To reveal a pen pal's text number you must register and verify a phone number you control. Messages you send pass through our messaging provider and may be logged. Standard carrier message and data rates apply. You are solely responsible for the content of your messages. We may block or report messages that violate these terms or facility rules.

6. Accounts

Keep your login details confidential; you are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you think it has been compromised.

7. Fees

• Browsing the directory and registering a phone are free.
• Profile listing: a one-time fee of $49.99 publishes a profile for 365 days from approval.
• Reveal credits: where a reveal requires credits, the price is shown before you confirm. Credits are tied to your registered phone and are not transferable.

Payments are processed by a third-party provider under their terms. All fees are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise or we say so in writing. We may change prices for future purchases at any time.

8. Profile content

Whoever submits a profile is responsible for its accuracy and for having the right to publish it, including photos. By submitting content you give us a licence to display and promote it as part of the Service. We may edit for format, decline, or remove any profile at our discretion, including for inaccurate information, complaints, or facility requests. Profiles expire automatically at the end of their term.

9. Intellectual property

The Service, its design, and its content (other than user submissions) are owned by WriteACon and protected by law. You may use the Service for its intended personal purpose only.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that any profile is accurate, that any message or letter will be delivered, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, WriteACon is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from your correspondence or relationship with anyone you contact through the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

12. Changes

We may update these terms. The date above shows the current version; continued use after a change means you accept it.
