WriteACon

Write to someone inside.

WriteACon is a prison pen-pal directory for people in federal custody who want mail. Browse for free, read their own words, and reach out by letter — or by text through a facility-approved service, from your own phone.

Full legal nameRegister No. 12345-678FCI Facility NameP.O. Box 0000City, ST 00000
Every profile shows the address exactly as the facility needs it: full legal name, register number, facility and P.O. Box. Mail that is missing the name or number is returned.

How it works

Three steps from first search to first letter. You do not need an account to browse.

  1. Step 1: Browse the directory

Filter by age, gender, state and release year, or search a name or interest. Every profile is free to read, and you do not need an account.

  2. Step 2: Read their own words

Each profile has photos, a bio the person wrote themselves, their release date, and how they prefer to be reached.

  3. Step 3: Write a letter, or send a text

Mail a letter to the address shown, or register your phone once (free) to reveal a text number and message from your own phone. Your number stays private.

Two ways to begin

Whether you want to write to someone, or someone you love is inside and wants mail.

If you want to write

Browsing is free and needs no account. When you find someone, write to the address on their profile — or register your phone once, for free, and text them through WriteACon from your own number. They never see it.

Ready to text? Register your phone.

If someone you love is inside

List their profile so the people who want to write can find them: a photo, their own words, and the address to write to. One payment of $49.99 keeps it live for a year, and every profile is reviewed before it is published.

Was a texting profile set up for them through ContactMeAsap? Complete it with your access code.

What you can count on

The same rules hold for every profile, whether there are ten people listed or ten thousand.

Every profile is reviewed before it is published
A person checks each listing before it appears, and listings expire automatically, so nobody writes to an address that no one checks.
Your number is never shown
Texts go through WriteACon. The person you write to sees our number, not yours, and you can stop at any time.
Addresses the way facilities require
Each profile shows the full legal name, register number and mailing address exactly as they should appear on the envelope.
One payment, no subscription
Listing a profile is a single payment for a full year. Browsing is free, registering your phone is free, and your first reveals each month are free.
A person answers
Questions about a listing, or a problem with a message, go to a real person, usually within 24 to 48 hours.
Independent, and clear about it
WriteACon is not affiliated with the Federal Bureau of Prisons or any correctional agency, and does not set facility mail or phone rules.

Before you write to anyone, please read the safety guidelines.

The directory is opening.

Every profile is reviewed before it is published, so the first listings take a little time to appear. If someone you love is inside, you can list them now — they will be among the first people visitors meet here.
